ReFill Shop

Zero-waste shopping in Bude

At Bude ReFill Shop we have one aim: to provide zero-waste shopping for everyone in our beautiful town, be they residents, business owners or visitors. Where possible we stock locally produced items, and we always research our products to bring you the best value, ethical choices.

It’s really simple: just fill your own containers with exactly the amount you need and off you go. No extra packaging to take home, no plastic bottles filling up your recycling bag, and no excess food sitting at the back of your cupboard for years because it turns out you didn’t like that recipe after all.

And it gets better: we are a Community Interest Company (CIC), meaning that any surplus we make is used for the benefit of the community.

What can I refill?

The shop may not be big, but we stock a huge range of food, cleaning and body care products.

We have your staple dry foods covered, with cereal, pasta, rice, pulses, flour, sugar, dried fruit, nuts, sweets, chocolate, herbs and spices. Then there are oils, vinegars and ketchup, and we also have some gluten-free and dairy-free options.

Our refillable household and body products are all made with natural ingredients, which are kind to your skin and the environment. These include: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisturiser, sun cream, laundry liquid and powder, washing-up liquid, all-purpose cleaner, toilet cleaner, white vinegar and castille soap.

How do I refill?

It’s easy. Bring whatever container you have – we see everything from old bread bags and takeaway tubs to beautifully decorated tins and glass bottles – and put it on the scales. Press "tare" to take the weight of the container away, then fill up with whatever you need. Put it back on the scales and we’ll record the weight on the till. That’s it. No container? No problem – we always have spare jars and bottles for liquids, and paper bags for dry goods. And of course, our friendly staff will be more than happy to help you out if you’re not sure what to do.

Is it all refills?

No. Even we recognise that not everything can be refilled! But that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with plastic. Alongside our refill goods we also stock plastic-free bathroom and household items such as deodorant, dental products, toilet roll, shaving soaps and balms, menstrual hygiene products, reusable make-up removal pads, bath loofahs and soaps.

And then there’s water bottles, coffee cups, chewing gum, paper tape, dish brushes and scourers, kitchen roll, metal straws, tissues. Oh, and a small selection of locally made gifts and cards. Honestly, you’d better just come in and have a look for yourself! If you prefer, there is a stock list here, but we can’t promise it’s always entirely up to date.
